In the early 1930s, Holgate visited Mutton Bay, an isolated fishing village on the St. Lawrence River across from Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula. The village name dates from the early 1800s and may refer to sheep transported by cod fishing fleets to ensure a supply of fresh meet.
