Notes

* The model for this picture is widely believed to be his wife Christine Douglas.
Douglas painted a series of four works with the title Channel Islands Series in 1878, depicting Jersey Cows. The first painting was titled 'Jersey; depicting a Milkmaid alongside two Jersey cows. The second painting was titled 'Alderney' depicting a girl holding cabbages walking alongside a Jersey cow. The third titled 'Sark' depicting a milkmaid holding a milk can with coastal scenery in the background. And the fourth entitled 'Jersey Family' depicting the milking of Jersey cows. E.J.Douglas exhibited at The Royal Academy from 1869-1900.
