Two large bound portfolios of etchingsThe first titled 'E Van Rees, 58 Gravures Sur Bois Inspirees par le Roman Tristan et Iseut de Joseph Bedier', the etchings displayed across 20 mounted pages, bound in white velum, the second titled 'E Van Rees de Openbaring Van Johannes' (the Revelation of St. John), displaying 18 mounted etchings, bound in contemporary half morocco, both cased,Etchings signed in pencil 66 x 52cm (26 x 20 1/2in).

Etie van Rees (1890-1973) was a Dutch painter, draftsman and ceramist. She was born in the Dutch East Indies and moved to the Netherlands in 1919. In 1928 she illustrated the book 'The Fable of the Dwarf Deer' by Marie van Zeggelen, and in 1946 she published the fairy tale book 'De Nachtmannetjes' which she illustrated herself. She became a member of the Pulchri Studio and 'de Grafische' and exhibited her watercolours and drawings several times.In 1952 Van Rees also started working with ceramics. She became known to a wider audience with her imaginative animal figures whom she called 'crawls', and successfully exhibited in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen throughout the 1960's. She is now considered one of the most prominent Dutch ceramic artists of the 20th century.
