Condition Report

Areas of light surface soiling evident along the edges of the canvas, some surface soiling extends slightly beyond the edges into areas of all four corners of canvas. A notable example is evident at the bottom of the third white line from left in which there is an area approximately 2 x 2 in. area of grey smudging, possibly finger prints. There are several areas of cracking evident in the painting as outlined below. An approximately 4 x 2 in. area of spiraled cracking beginning approximately 11 1/2 inches from the top of the canvas at right. An approximately 3 1/2 in. crescent shaped crack, approx 15 inches from bottom of canvas at right. An approx 3 x 4 in. circular area of cracking at the center of the bottom horizontal edge and an approx 3 inch curved crack to the upper right of this circular one.. These may have been caused by something coming into contact with the back of the canvas. There is an approx 2 in. vertical crack approx 3 inches in from right vertical edge at center. An approx 2 inch horizontal crack at center of top horizontal edge. An approx 2 inch faint diagonal crack approx 13 1/2 inches in from the left vertical edge at lower center, as well as a few other cracks in areas at canvas edges. Scattered dots of light brown staining on verso, indicative of mold growth. The canvas has a naturally occuring slightly raised narrow horizontal line running horizontally across approx 6 inches from bottom of canvas. This is rather unobtrusive.
