PROVENANCE

Anonymous sale, London, Sotheby's, 5 April 1995, lot 131 (as Studio of Jan Weenix).

NOTE

The signature was revealed during cleaning in 1995 after its purchase in these Rooms on 5 April (see Provenance), which confirms the attribution to Vonck made prior to cleaning by Mr. Fred G. Meijer. His largest known work, the present painting may be compared with the four works published in S.A. Sullivan, The Dutch Gamepiece, Woodbridge 1984, figs. 42, 111-113.
