Emily Fern 1881-1953 South African Oils on paper mounted on board. A South African Landscape Signed lower right. 13½ x 15 in. In 1913, Emily Fern became one of the first students to attend the Johannesburg School of Art, and was appointed the first Hon Sec of Johannesburg School of Art Club. In London, 1920-1922, she studied at the Slade School of Art under Henry Tonks and Wilson Steer. She continued her studies under Andre Lhote in Paris 1933, and again in 1949.
