Hornick was an Antwerp-born goldsmith and ornament designer, who worked closely with Jacopo Strada (see introduction to lots 41-60). He is first recorded in Augsburg, where he married in 1555 and is also documented in Nürnberg in 1559-66, in Augsburg again in 1578 and in Prague in 1582, the year before his death. He was a prolific designer who published various pattern books of designs for vases, ewers and jewellery during the 1560s.
