Erik Adriann van der Grijn (b.1941) CROSS, KILCOCK and CROSS, OAKPORT DEMESNE, COUNTY ROSCOMMON, 1976 (A PAIR) each work signed lower right; dated lower left oil and alkyld on board 37 by 37cm., 14.5 by 14.5in. Studies for two larger works, the first from the collection of the artist's daughter, and the second from the collection of Sir Basil Goulding. Both of the larger works were shown at the Hendriks Gallery in 1976 and at the artist's retrospective held at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires in 1999. Born in the Netherlands, Erik Adriaan van der Grijn studied at the Royal College of Art in the Hague. In 1964 he moved to Ireland where he regularly showed at the Living Art exhibitions and had several solo shows at the Hendriks Gallery. He received several public commissions including the design of the Sir William Orpen stamp for An Post in 1977. Since 1995 van der Grijn has divided his time between the United States and South America exhibiting regularly in New York and Buenos Aires. His art is in many major public collections including the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Hugh Lane, UCD and the OPW.
