Artist or Maker

Notes

A teacher of Montezin, Ernest Quost exhibited to wide acclaim at the Salon de Paris and the Salon de Artistes Francais from the 1870s through the 1920s and was the recipient of an important medal at the famous 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris.

Quost was renowned for his flower paintings; his floral bouquets were admired by Claude Monet and "Father Quost''s roses" were complimented by Van Gogh in an 1888 letter from Arles to his brother Theo.

Quost''s work is in the permanent collections, among others, of the Musee d''Orsay and Musee Marmottan, Paris.

Quost was awarded a Chevalier (knight) in the Légion d''honneur, France''s highest civilian honor.
