V. lived in Haarlem in 1610, but moved to The Hague in 1618. His teachers were possibly his father Hans as well as G. van Coninxloo. V. is a pioneer in establishing landscape painting as a genre of ist own, but also had high abilities in painting figures which captivate by realism, colour a. vividness.
