Item Overview

Description

EUGENE QUINTON (French, d. 1892)
Melodie
Bronze
26 inches (66.0 cm)
Signed on right side of base: E. Quinton
Foundry mark: M. W. and stamped: Reduction Mecanique, A. Collas, Brevete

This sculpture is of a standing, Victorian-era female figure, holding her place in a book with her left hand. Her long, ankle-length skirt is wonderfully detailed, as is the tufted stool on which her right foot rests. Her long hair is caught in a loose bun; her eyes are cast downward.

The Reduction Mecanique A. Collas, Brevete seal denotes that this sculpture is a smaller version of another Melodie.
