Notes

Painter, poet and writer Albert August Plasschaert (1866 - 1941) was an autodidact who worked for most of his career as a designer of stained glass windows, while developing a mystical religious philosophy which he expressed in visionary, often inaccesible, paintings, writings and lectures. Plasschaert published numerous review of the work of fellow-artists, most notably that of kindered spirits such as Van Konijnenburg (see following lot) and in 1912 was the first to present the work of the Italian futurists and Kandinsky in The Netherlands
