an okubi-e of the actor, wearing a striped haori and bearing a composed expression as he is about to draw his sword, in the play Uruu-utoshi Meika no Homare, the actor's haigo (haiku poetry name), Kinokuniya toshi inscribed in a rectangular cartouche to the right, performed in the 11th month of Kansei 6 [1794], at the Miyako-za, censor's seal kiwame, publisher's mark of Tsutaya Jûzaburô, signed Toshusai Sharaku ga

This is one of two prints relating to the story on the struggle for succession to the throne between the imperial princes Korehito and Koretaka. This print depicts the former's most trusted retainer, the central figure in the combat between the two contending parties. In the guise of a messenger, he is about to engage a rival retainer in battle
