Item Overview

Description

FALCONER, Ian (b. 1959). Charcoal, ink and gouache on paper of Falconer's iconic "Olivia" character reading a book entitled "World's BIGGEST BUGS," seated on a stack of eleven multi-colored books with titles such as: "There Are Monsters Under the Bed!," "Kittens for a Princess," Bedtime for YOU, Morning for the VAMPIRE," "My Mother the ZOMBIE!," and "OMG! Love." With pencil annotations (presumably the illustrator's) indicating colors for the printer. Image 530 x 205 mm; Sheet 610 x 482 mm. Signed in pencil lower right. (Some loss on title of first book.)

Since the publication of Olivia, in 2000 (awarded the Caldecott Honor in 2001), children and parents alike have delighted in sharing the stories of the energetic Olivia. This charming illustration of Olivia was the Children's Book Week poster for 2009. RARE. Falconer material is rarely seen on the market.
