Based on photographs, Nicola Spinosa believes the present work to be a modello for the lower section of a painting of the Conversion of Saul by Fischetti, which is signed and dated 1759, made for the church of Santo Spirto, Naples (see N. Spinosa, Pittura napoletana del Settecento. Dal Rococò al Classicismo, Napoli 1988, second edition, 1993, p. 133, cat.no. 204, reproduced, fig. 265.
