Description

FLIEGERTRUPPE USA - James Norman Hall - a uniform M 1917 Olive coloured tunic of wool tricot applied breast-and coattail pockets the metal insignia of the Signal Corps and U.S. on the stand-up collar rank badge for a captain embroidered on the shoulder boards. The left upper arm with the silk-embroidered insignia of the 3rd Army pilot's wings embroidered above the left breast pocket around the lower parts of the sleeves a copper coloured silk band. The inner pocket bears the initials J.N.H. and 94th (Hat in the Ring Squadron). Including the corresponding breeches and garrison cap with rank badge yellow silk liner and the visor cap with leather chin strap. Small moth holes in places. Also a pair of puttees and a Sam Browne belt. James Norman Hall (1887 - 1951) entered the British army as a machine gunner in 1914 became a pilot in the Lafayette Squadron of the French army and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Air Service's 103rd Aero Squadron and 94th Squadrons. At the end of the war he was in German captivity.
