Notes

Florence E Lewis (1874-97) studied at the Lambeth School of Art. John Sparkes introduced her to Henry Doulton in about 1874. Not only did she work at the Lambeth Studios as a pottery artist but she was also a competent paintress in oils and watercolours and she exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute and the principal London galleries. After 1897 she travelled extensively in Europe but continued to do freelance work for Doulton, examples of which were shown at the Paris Exhibition of 1900.
