FOUR ARCHAISTIC JADE AND HARDSTONE CARVINGS

Late Qing Dynasty

The crouching beast facing forward with ears back, the base flat, with incised inscription between line borders, the stone opaque and tinted black at the edges; the lychee with a grid pattern to depict the skin, a small channel drilled between the fruit for stringing; the flatten 'tortoise shell' drilled through the center to function as a bead, the olive-green stone mottled brown in areas; the rectangular ring with incised keyfret pattern on one side, perforated on short ends for attachment, the olive-green stone with russet inclusions to one side. Beast: 3in (7.6cm) long;
Lychee: 2 1/8in (5.4cm) long;
Tortoise: 1 3/8 in (3.5cm) long;
Rectangular ring: 1 1/4in (3.2 cm) long

Surface wear and pitting. Tiny chips to extremities, most significantly one shallow chip to the beast's right foot. Stones altered to induce colors and textures for the appearance of antiquity.
