Condition Report

The canvas is in fine condition, with no sign of tearing or distress. There are tiny flecks of white scattered on the paint in places, these seem to be a kind of mould, as they do not affect the paint pigments themselves, and can be removed with a gentle clean. Inspection under UV light reveals old restrengthening of the paint surface throughout the background, tiny retouchings on the angel's cheek and nose and in the face of the standing male figure, in all the darkest countours of drapery, on Magdalen's jaw and arm, and small areas of restrengthening along Christ's body. There are two repaired tears, a vertical tear measuring 25 cm in the upper left corner, and two shorter (6cm and 8cm) tears extending from the upper right edge. This lot is offered in a plain black frame with gold inner edge, in fine condition.
