NOTE

A similar drawing by Francis Barlow is in the Witt Collection at The Courtauld Institute, London. Although the composition has been reversed the principal birds are the same. There are some minor differences, however, for example the heron and duck in the present work have been replaced with a hawk and a pheasant in the Witt drawing
