FRANCIS DAVIS MILLET
American, 1846-1912

Portrait of a Native American. Unsigned. Label affixed to upper stretcher reads "F.D. Millet 6 East 23rd Street, New York".
A well-respected academic painter, Millet was noted for historical genre paintings and images of Sioux Indians. His life was tragically cut short with the sinking of the Titanic.

Oil on canvas, 9" x 15". Framed.

Condition Report

Canvas appears original. (Not Relined). UV light reveals no restorations. Very minor paint loss to left hand background in front of the indian''s nose. A few scattered small ares of paint loss all roughly th size of a pin head to his hair, his shoulder, and his left arm. Surface is dirty.
