NOTE

This is a late work by Francisco de Solis, painted two years before the artist's death in 1684. The style and distinctive colour scheme, derived from the Venetian colourists, recall the work of Juan Carreño de Miranda, Francisco Rizi, Claudio Coello and other leading members of the school of Madrid, to which De Solis belonged. His oeuvre consists largely of religious paintings, such as this, painted for religious institutions in and around Madrid.
