Looking Toward Beavertail. Signed "F.C. Mathewson" l.l., titled, inscribed, and dated twice on the reverse. Oil on canvasboard, 9 x 12 in., framed. Condition: Paint losses, craquelure.

N.B. The inscriptions on the back, which are oriented in opposite directions, bear two different titles and dates, suggesting that the artist painted over an earlier composition. The earlier inscription reads: "Fishing-boat - Salt Pond/by/Frank C. Mathewson/1907." The later inscription: "Looking Toward Beavertail/by/Frank C. Mathewson/1925."
