Description

Frank Craig 1874-1918- Elegant figures; woman with a parasol, possibly walking in Central park, New York; gouache in monochrome, circa 1902, original artwork illustration intended for publication, 29x38cm. Note: Born 1874, he studied at the Lambeth School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. In 1900 he was working in the US for Scribners. He worked on staff at The Graphic, British weekly news magazine, and submitted to the Royal Academy and the Paris salons. Won a gold medal for portraiture at the Paris Salons in the early part of the 20th century. He continued to work in the U.S. working for McClures Magazine from 1902-1904, Harpers from 1907 to 1914, and Scribners. Book illustrator and his work accompanied some of the most famous authors of the 20th century to include, Rudyard Kipling; R.W. Chambers; F. Marion Crawford; Arnold Bennett and Maurice Hewlett.
