Description

FRANK VITTOR BUST OF LINCOLN. (American 1888-1968) Plaster study bust of Abraham Lincoln showing Lincoln in a pensive mood holding his hand to his chin. Signed F. Vittor and dated 1918, on both front and back. Vittor created this bust for a proposed Lincoln monument that was never made. Vittor was a noted sculptor who is best known for his sculpture of Honus Wagner that stands outside of PNC Park; the heroic Art Deco relief panels on the George Westinghouse bridge on the Lincoln Highway; and for the design of the 1936 Battle of Gettyburg commenorative half dollar. Condition: long crack in front under Lincoln's chin and hand, several other cracks and chips. Dimensions: 41''W., 24''D., 37''H.
