Lot 85: Franz Ehrlich (1907-1984)

Komposition signed and dated 'F. Ehrlich 1929' (on the reverse) oil on board 231/4 x 151/2in. (59 x 39.5cm.) Painted in 1929 NOTES Having studied at the Bauhaus, Franz Ehrlich was one of the students who would later exploit the entire breadth of the Bauhaus training. He worked as a graphic designer, as an exhibition designer and as an interior designer. He was involved in equipping new rooms when the Bauhaus moved to Dessau. The present painting not only reflects the Bauhaus philosophy of colour and form, but also makes a clear reference to Moholy-Nagy's personal interpretation of Bauhaus aesthetics and tonality.
