Signed and dated "Fred E. Phelps/1887" l.r., titled and inscribed "...U. Brown" on
the stretcher.
Oil on canvas stretched with Boston tabs, 20 x 30 in. (50.7 x 76.2 cm), framed.
Condition: Old repair in l.r. quadrant, retouch, craquelure, surface grime.

The retouch is almost exclusively along the lower edge. The repair mentioned previously is under and inch tall but about 6 inches long. There are some small areas of lifting in the vicinity of this repair. The work needs cleaning.

An old label affixed to the stretcher appears to be a list of the greatest fires, perhaps taken from a newspaper.
