Description

FREDERIC ROUX (FRENCH 1805-1874). "RUBICON, TAKING A PILOT OFF CAPE LA HEVE, FEBY 23, 1837." Built at Medford in 1835, 490 tons, the "Rubicon" was put into service in the New Orleans-Havre cotton trade. Watercolor on paper, 17 1/4 x 23 1/2inches. Signed and dated "Frederic Roux, au Havre 1837" l.r. The reverse inscribed and signed "Frederic Roux/ hydrographe & peintre de Marine/ petit quay Notre Dame N.13/ au Havre/ en Mar 5/ 1837." In a gilt period frame.
