Item Overview

Description

King's College Chapel, Cambridge signed 'F.NASH' (lower right) pencil and watercolour, with scratching out 9 7/8 x 14 in. (25.2 x 35.6 cm) PROVENANCE with M. Newman, London. NOTES King's College Chapel, founded in 1446, is one of Cambridge's most highly impressive buildings, attached to one of the oldest colleges in the city, the chapel's first stone was laid by Henry VI. Construction of the chapel was not completed until over a hundred years later during the reign of Henry VIII and had already involved the participation of four kings, who, during their rule, granted funds to continue building small sections. King's College Chapel was recognised as one of Europe's finest medieval buildings by contemporary society and is still regarded as a prime example of late English Gothic architecture.
