Notes & Literature: Fredrick Theodore Weber was born in Columbia, South Carolina, a descendant of a German family that came to the state in the middle of the 1700s well before the American Revolution. Weber had close family ties to Columbia but his father's business interest and travels, which allowed young Fredrick to be educated in Europe, and his life as a successful artist in New York, never caused Weber to lose contact with his home. His father's business took him to Germany where young Fredrick was educated at Konigliches Joachimthalshes Gymnasium in Berlin where he graduated in1903. However, it was Paris where he went for his artistic education. There he studied at the Ecole National des Beaux Arts from 1910 to 1913 and at the Julian Academy.
