Notes

Henriette Princess of Nassau-Weilburg (1797-1829) married Archduke Karl of Austria Duke of Teschen (1771-1847) in 1815. The controversial union between the eighteen year old protestant Henriette and the forty-four year old catholic Karl was supported by true reciprocal love. Henriette adored her husband and Karl considered himself one of the luckiest men for having her. He showered her with gifts which included, in the attempt to soothe her homesickness, a splendid castle in the Empire style near Baden which he named Weilburg after the site of Henriette's family.
