Description

Friedrich Johann Gottlieb Lieder (German, 1780-1859) A young beauty. Watercolor on paper, signed and dated illegibly at the left, apprx. sight size 9-1/4 x 8-1/4, in gilt decorative newer frame under glass, overall apprx. 13-1/2 x 12-1/2. Franz Lieder, became a Viennese court painter, specializing in portraits, historical renditions, interiors, and miniatures. Highly detailed and scientifically oriented, he worked on early experiments and a venture in the art of lithography. He was made a member of the Academy of Vienna in 1824, and is known to have resided or worked in the cities of Paris, Tyrnau, Presbourg Vienna and Pest. Royal portraits are preserved at the Hohenzollern Museum in Berlin. Some examples include Prince Frederic, Prince Guillame, Prince Charles, Prince, Albert, the Princesses Louise and Charlotte. At the Beaux Arts in Budapest: a grouping of 13 watercolors and a portrait of the artist are also mentioned. At the Academy in Vienna; a portrait of Count Czernin von Chudntniz. In Lichenstein a portrait of J. Clatzer. Small portraits often include interior views in the background, with details to ornamentation and patterns on ceilings, carpets, drapes and jewelry.
