JARING, Cor (Dutch 1936 - 2013). Reneman in his lab coat and wooden shoes in front of an apartment building, 1972. Gelatin silver print. Good condition, minor handling creases. 18 x 24 cm.

JARING, Cor (Dutch 1936 - 2013). Robert Jasper Grootveld examines an egg in the context of the question on Chicken or Egg (Wat was eerder kip of ei?), Ruigoord. Gelatin silver print, with copyright stamp 'Cor Jaring Middenweg 161 Tel 020-56652 Amsterdam-1006 Holland' (on the reverse). Some wear along the margins, slightly discoloured.

JARING, Cor (Dutch 1936 - 2013). Nederland is te groot, from the series Holland Promotion, 1972. Two gelatin silver prints of Max Reneman with painted face, standing on stilts with the national flag as a cape around him, one titled in black pen by Reneman: 'Nederland is te groot' (on the reverse). The other photo is a detail with Reneman's painted face. Some wear and creases, one corner dog-eared. 18 x 24 cm.

Added: two prints for a poster of the exhibition of 'De roodwitblauwe koe is los'. De tentoonstelling van het deskundologisch laboratorium' in: De Koningswei, Kultureelsentrum in Tilburg. Slightly damaged. DETTLING, W. (Dutch). Boven De Kuil (Over The Hole), 1972. Gelatin silver print, with copyright stamp 'W. Dettling Warmoesstr. 119 A'dam - Tel 243828' (on the reverse). (Finger-) soiled, else good. 18 x 24 cm. attr. to DETTLING, W. (Dutch). The Hole and Holland Promotion. Two gelatin silver prints mounted together on a sheet of white paper with layout instructions (on the reverse). Some wear to the margins and handling creases. Added: five separate portraits 'Werkfoto's' of fellow workers at the hole, like Grootveld, Hoekert, Reneman, and later prints of wooden shoes and found objects. Different sizes.

DETTLING, W. (Dutch). Deskundologische grondwerkzaamheden (ground research), c. 1972. Five gelatin silver prints, with copyright stamp 'W. Dettling Warmoesstr. 119 A'dam - Tel 243828' (on the reverse of 3 photos) and with layout instructions in red felt pen (1x on the reverse). Handling creases, one corner dog-eared. All c. 16 x 22 cm. N.B. Inspired by the construction of the metro in Amsterdam in 1972, the members of 'Het Deskundologisch Laboratorium' dug a big hole in the floor of the café-gallery K. Appel in the Oude Hoogstraat 27 in Amsterdam in search of all kinds of signals from the past.

DIJKSTRA, Ger (Dutch 1921). Grootveld, Reneman and Kley at an exhibition of the Deskundologisch Laboratorium. Gelatin silver print, with copyright stamp 'Copyright Ger Dijkstra & Zn. Bouvigne 24 Amsterdam-Holland [...]' (on the reverse). Wear to the margins, one diagonal fold. 24 x 18 cm. N.N. Six photos mounted side by side on a sheet of white paper. Depicted is a chair with painted title 'Mobiele leerstoel in de Deskundologie' photographed from all sides, with in black pen 'Ned. tandartsenblad no 22 1973' and layout instructions (on the reverse). Some wear to the margins, slightly soiled.

Added: two other photos of Reneman as researcher for the 'Deskundologisch Laboratorium' and one gelatin silver print by Otto Romijn 'Portrait of a 'Zielkundoloog', with copyright stamp 'foto Otto Romijn Kuipersstraat 55'' telefoon 791464 Amsterdam o-z', layout instructions and inscribed by Reneman with title in black pen (on the reverse, crossed out). The picture of the 'zielkundoloog' was published in: De Nieuwe Linie, 5 juli '72 as an example of psycho-therapeutologic bla-bla. Slightly damaged, with some folds. 27.5 x 21.5 cm. N.B. Max Reneman and Theo Kley held a mobile chair 'Mobiele leerstoel in de Deskundologie' at the VU University Amsterdam. N.N. Photomontage with Robert Jasper Grootveld and Max Reneman, in the series Openbaar Kunstgebit. Gelatin silver print, montage with Grootveld and Reneman standing inside a denture. Slightly discoloured and worn. 17.5 x 24 cm. NB. Besides his work as an artist and member of the Deskundologisch Laboratorium, Max Reneman was a dentist. He combined his skills on artistic and prosthetic level by founding the 'Stichting Openbaar Kunstgebit', a wordplay on 'Public Art Collection'. N.N. Robert Jasper & Max Reneman bezig met onderzoek "Wat was eerder, kip of ei?" (Robert Jasper & Max Reneman investigate "What came first, chicken or egg?"). Series on the research into the issue of chicken and egg, consisting of: two sheets with contact prints, four b&w photos, one titled in blue pen 'Robert Jasper & Max Reneman bezig met onderzoek "Wat was eerder, kip of ei?" (on the reverse) and 5 colour prints of girls with an egg in their mouth, in the original folder stamped '9 mei 1975' and inscribed 'reneman ei', and 3 other. Two contact prints cut out, some layout instuctions, good condition. 24 x 18 cm. (2x), 12 x 18 cm. (4x), 9 x 13 cm. (5x).

Form 15333', with added 'Deskundoloog' under 'Aanvraag bezoek', with copyright stamp 'Foto: Wim Ruigrok' (in the front lower right margin). Minor wear to the margins, paper form discoloured. Photo size 16 x 21.5 cm., paper size 27 x 21.5 cm. B. Personal album with photos, drawings, autograph and typed notes and thoughts, 1972 - 1979. Esveha Multo ringbinder with plastic photo covers, with several photos in b&w and colour prints: two passport photos in paper folder of Heno, with autograph note by Reneman: "Woesteling op zondag na het ontbijt, denkend aan een film van Harold Loyd."; Photos of machines like 'D. Bangert' and of a still life for 'Openbaar Kunstgebit'; Rafts and boats; bicycles; Six b&w photos of the death of an old man beneath a linden tree during a Deskundologic research of trees in Tilburg; Original autograph postcard 'Anti-Doping!' of an old lady on a tricycle with mounted strip of paper with in red and black pen "Deskundolgie afdeling: vooruitgang" from Theo Kley and friends to Deskundologisch Lab., Aan Max Reneman, dated 29-9-1972: "Beste Max, We hebben met ons vieren reeds veel deskundologische arbeid verzet alhier. Waaronder kerkhofonderzoek, grotonderzoek, verschijnsels ontdekt. Gewerkt aan de klompeljon en verder diverse desk. ontdekk. gedaan waarvan nader verslag bij onze terugkomst in A'dam. We hebben hier tamelijk hard gewerkt maar hebben niet het idee klaar te zijn voor ons vertrek".

Conditions of Sale

1. Items may be returned - in the same condition - if any serious defect not mentioned in the catalogue is found. Notice must be given promptly, and the item returned within 8 days of receipt. Excepted are lots comprising 3 or more works, works not mentioned in the description separately ("others"), or items marked "w.a.f." ("with all faults") or "n.s.t.r." ("not subject to return"). Condition of frames and passe-partouts is not a reason for return.

2. Prices are in Euros. Bids are raised by fixed increments. Up to €100 the increment is €5, from €100 to €200 the increment is €10, from €200 to €300 the increment is €20, from €300 to €500 the increment is €25, from €500 to €1.000 the increment is €50, from €1.000 to €2.000 the increment is €100, from €2.000 to €5.000 the increment is €200, from €5.000 to €10.000 the increment is €500, and from €10.000 upwards the increment is €1.000.

3. All auction bids are binding. The highest bidder shall be the purchaser of the lot. In case of dispute, the auctioneer alone is entitled to decide on price and/or purchaser. The auctioneer has the right to refuse any bid without stating his reason.

4. Each buyer is held to buy for his own account and cannot claim any commission.

5. Winning bidders pay a buyer's premium over the hammer price plus the 3% online transaction fee charged by Invaluable. The buyer's premium is 24.2% including all taxes up to and including € 100,000; and 10% including tax of the portion of the hammer price above € 100,000.

6. The winning bidder is responsible for paying the resale royalty (droit de suite) if applicable. Droit de suite is payable to living artists or their heirs within 70 years following the death of the artist on resold artworks with a resale price [hammer price + total premium excl. VAT] of at least €3.000. The artist must be an EU national, or a national of Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway, or must be a permanent resident of the Netherlands. The royalty of 4% is to be paid on resale prices from €3.000 to €50.000; on portion of the price from € 50,000.01 to € 200,000 3% of royalties is to be paid, from € 200,000.01 to € 350,000 droit de suite is 1%, from € 350,000.01 to € 500,000 - 0.5%; above € 500,000.01 - 0.25%. Resale royalties are not subject to VAT.

7. All purchases must be paid for within two weeks of the receipt of the invoice. Property of the goods does not pass to the purchaser until the invoice has been paid in full. Any costs caused by buyers not complying with these conditions (e.g. collecting fees) will be chargeable to them. Payments are accepted by bank transfer, debit card (if paying in the office), Visa and Mastercard. All bank charges are to be paid by the buyer. Payments by credit card from outside the EU are subject to a 4% surcharge on the total invoice amount up to €1.000; on invoices from €1.000 to €2.000 the surcharge is 3%, and on amounts exceeding €2.000 a surcharge of 2,5% is applicable.

8. Shipping is at cost and risk of the purchaser. All shipments are sent through standard surface mail unless the buyer explicitly requests otherwise.

9. Buyers who wish to collect their goods must do so within two weeks of the date of the auction. All costs incurred after this period, e.g. storage, insurance, transport etc., will be charged to the buyer.

10. All images and lot descriptions appearing in the online catalogue are the property of Adams Amsterdam Auctions. They can be used freely for the promotion of the auction. Once the sale is closed, it is strictly forbidden to use them without the written permission of the auction house. All rights reserved.

11. On every purchase Dutch law only is applicable. In case of disputes in first instance the judge of the appropriate chamber in Amsterdam is exclusively competent to decide in first instance.

12. By bidding at the auction, the bidder accepts these terms and conditions of sale in full.
