Gabriel Barredo's creations are always palpable in their yearning for new experiences and sights, evoke the wanderlust of their creator. A desire not so much to travel physically but as a voyager to earlier eras and imagined lands in his imagination. Barredo gathers his impressions of the fantasy through old photographs, prints, jewelries, furnitures and knicks-knacks from his obsessive ransacking of antique shops and thrift stores and crystallized his vision through his kinetic sculptural work. With its pulsating movement, rhythm and layered content, both sculptural works reflect Barredo's peripatetic hunger, not only for the tangible fragments of life, but also for erudition. Revealing an eccentric imagination at work, the works capture the alchemy of disparate found objects congealing into a work of exquisite poetry.
