Description

General Philippe Regis de Trobriand (French, 1816-1897) "Cottage Landscape with Villagers and Livestock Near Stream", oil on canvas, H.-12 in., W.-20 in., signed and dated l.r., presented in a fine antique gilt and gesso exhibition frame. Note: De Trobriand emigrated to the United States from France in 1841. After the start of the Civil War, he became a citizen of the United States and in 1861, he was given command of the 55th New York Regiment. Eventually, he served in the occupation forces in New Orleans in 1875.
