CATALOGUE NOTE

Although born in Carrickmacross, Co.Monaghan and taught initially at the Royal Hibernian Academy then the Metropolitan, Collie became familar with Paris during his years as a student there when, enabled by a Taylor Art Scholarship, he studied at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and at Colarossi's. When he returned home, he taught at the Metropolitan and then in the early 1940s, opened his own art school where he taught for 40 years.
