Description

oil/board, 12" x 10", signed and dated. Knapp worked in Syracuse, New York. He was a bank note engraver and die sinker in the 1850s, and later made a reputation as a portrait painter. His sitters included Daniel L. Dickinson and General O.W. Leavenworth. He also wrote about the history of middle New York State. REF: Who Was Who in American Art, Falk.
