Canterbury Quad was built to the east of Peckwater Quad in 1773 by Lord Rokeby, Archbishop of Armagh, on the site of a fourteenth century monastery and college devoted to the study of civil law. The Doric gateway was constructed in 1778 to a design by James Wyatt and the south side of the court was built in 1783.
