Lot 1332: George W Hooper (1910-1994) Abstract Landscape

George W Hooper (1910-1994) Abstract Landscape Signed, oil on board, 53cm by 78.5cm in a gilt frame Painter and teacher, born in Gorakhpur, India. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art 1930-31, moving to the Royal Academy Schools. He won the Turner Gold Medal and the Rome Prize to study at the British School in Rome. During World War II he joined the Pilgrim Trust's Recording Britain project. In the 1950's he designed posters for the GPO, Esso, Shell etc. The V&A and British Museum hold examples of his work.
