Description

A view of the Waag on the Dam being demolished, the Nieuwendijk on the left, the Huis onder't zeil by the Damrak to the right, the tower of the Oude Kerk beyond signed, dated '14se September 1808' and extensively inscribed ( verso ) pencil, pen and brown ink, waterclour heightened with white (partly oxidized), brown ink framing lines 175 x 242 mm. (6 7/8 x 91/2 in.). PROVENANCE Probably J.H.H. Leonhardt (1833-1904). Probably G. Leonhardt (1866-1943). G.J.G. Leonhardt (1901-1981), thence by descent to Mrs. G.E.A.M. Leonardt-Pilz van Wernhof; Christie's, Amsterdam, 20 November 1989, lot 256. With Haboldt & Co., Paris, 1992, no. 18, acquired by Dr Anton C.R. Dreesmann (inventory no. B-72).
