As the inscription on the verso indicates, this drawing was offered as a momento to Muller's friend, the poet, Hendrik Harmen Klijn, and may well have been included in his sale, which took place in Amsterdam on 27-28 May 1856.

And two others: a view of a hamlet by a stream, in pen and brown ink and grey wash, by Cornelis Buys, and a river running through wooded farmland, in pen and black ink and grey and brown wash, German School, 18th Century.
