Provenance : Clare Booth Luce (donation tags). A complete set of Greatnik dolls, comprising Einstein, Freud, Beethoven, Van Gogh, Abraham Lincoln, and Shakespeare. "Greatniks" was a sophisticated adult stuffed toy line whose name was inspired by the launch of the Russian satellite Sputnik. Glankoff, a New York based abstract expressionist artist, designed, fabricated, and manufactured over 200 stuffed toys for the New York based company, including the first stuffed Babar dolls.
