Description

GROSSBRITANNIEN Edward Onslow Ford (1852 - 1901) - Linus Bronze with brown patina. The back of the base signed E. Onslow Ford. The naked Linus holding a torch in his hand. Large impressive and elegantly modelled bronze figure. Height 77 cm. Linos is a son of Apollo music teacher of Hercules and inventor of letters. Edward Onslow Ford well-known English sculptor. Studied sculpture under M. Wagmüller in Munich between 1871 and 74. Won gold medals at several exhibitions in Munich Vienna and Paris. He and H. Thornycroft founded a contemporary English approach to sculpting based on profound anatomical knowledge. Cf. Christie's auction on 19 October 1995 in London lot 157 sold for 8 050 GBP.
