Published: Raggedy Ann and the Hoppy Toad by Johnny Gruelle (Springfield, MA: McLoughlin Bros., 1943), cover art. Justin Gruelle was the younger brother of Johnny Gruelle, the creator of Raggedy Ann and Andy. He worked for many years in the New York area as both a muralist and a commercial illustrator. When Johnny passed away in 1938, Justin was commissioned to illustrate previously unpublished Raggedy Ann and Andy manuscripts (of which Raggedy Ann and Mr. Hoppy Toad was one).
