Ordered by Nigogos Balian, architect to the Sultan, for the Çiragan Palace on the Bosphorus, Constantinople; the plaster model was exhibited at the 1865 Salon in Paris (no.2992).

Notes

Garnier exhibited the plaster model for this marble bust at the Salon of 1865 (no.2992), where it was described as 'portrait de S.M. le Sultan'. The Sultan is shown wearing the Mejidie Order to his neck and the campaign medal of Montenegro (1863).
