Notes

Israeli sculptor and installation artist Guy Zagursky studied in Jerusalem, gaining his Masters in Fine Art from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in 2004. His mixed media sculptures and assemblages draw inspiration from the experience of daily life and from the esoteric concepts which both govern and define its existence ? time, space and knowledge. Indeed in a recent interview the artist stated: 'I believe that art should remind the viewer of something that he forgot or form a connection to knowledge that has been compartmentalized somehow.' The resonance of his works, therefore, derives equally from the viewer's subjective experience, from their own memories, as it does from the artist's conception.

The present work, Mirror Against Mirror, pursues these themes through the use of parallel mirrors; the work's title, illuminated in neon characters implies the perpetual circumvention of meaning. Furthermore, the sculpture, by nature of its fabrication, plays upon the inherent duplicity of that which is reflected vis-à-vis that which is real. As Zagursky has explained, 'formalistically and conceptually, Mirror Against Mirror is about ridding oneself of all the extras and staying in the moment. Here, you can observe constructions of mirrors that reflect one another infinitely. It is an oxymoron, a hollow image or infinity contained in a box.'

Zagursky's work features in the permanent collection of the Haifa Museum of Art and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Israel.
