Item Overview

Description

William Barraud (1810-1850) painted this oil portrait of "Gypsy and Fairy", of Lord Methuen's Charles Spaniels. It is signed and dated on the base of the urn, "W. Barraud", with an indistinct (1848?) date. Barraud was best known as an engraver. His first painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1828 when he was eighteen, where he continued exhibiting for over fifty times. The painting is not disturbed from its original frame seating, but was relined recently.

CONDITION REPORTS AND DESCRIPTIONS: Written and oral descriptions are only our opinion. They are not guarantees of authenticity, age, condition, or materials. While we make an honorable effort to correctly catalog lots and to point out significant defects, we are not responsible or liable for the correctness or completeness of the catalog descriptions, and we usually do not scientifically test woods, precious metals or ceramics for age, species etc. It is always in the best interest of prospective bidders to examine items of interest before the sale. If you doubt the authenticity of something we recommend you not bid, as failure to pay for winning lots will expose you to legal action. This auction is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. You are welcome to call 610-722-9004 for a condition report or to answer your concerns. By placing a bid, you enter a legal contract guaranteeing your full payment in the time described. Late payments may be subject to additional fees.
SHIPPING AND DELIVERIES: CONVERSE can pack and ship many of the items in this sale, and when shipping is possible; details are posted in the items description. If you choose to have us pack and ship please note: WE DO NOT AND WILL NOT INSURE ITEMS SHIPPED FROM CONVERSE & CO., so if you require insurance, use a 3rd party shipper. When in-house pack & ship is not possible, we have recommended alternatives below under "3rd party shippers". In some situations, we can arrange to deliver items. No matter how your items are shipped, we need notification of your plans (preferably in writing) when paying for your lots. If you use a third party shipper, you authorize us to give them your contact information and they will be in touch with you directly after your payment is made. Failure to make shipping arrangements will have us remove your items to storage and a storage fee might be incurred. Any item returned to us without prior authorization will be considered abandoned and will become property of CONVERSE. RECOMMENDED 3RD PARTY SHIPPERS: If you would like a shipping quote before the sale, e-mail the recommended stores giving the lot number(s) and your address. We recommend using Dennis at the UPS Store in Wayne, store1152@theupsstore.com, or Duane at The Packing Store in Lansdale hello@packandshipnow.com or Bill at Mail N More mailnmoreplus@verizon.net. All will give a quote if they have the lot numbers and your address. They respond best to e-mail requests rather than phone calls. After your approval and payment, they pick up items, pack, and send them to you. Please keep in mind that the transaction between you and our recommended shippers is between the two of you- we at CONVERSE do not track your 3rd party transaction and are not responsible for information about your shipment after it has left our storage.
