The battle of Quiberon Bay was fought on 20th November 1759, during the Seven Years' War, in Quiberon Bay off the coast of France, near St. Nazaire. Admiral Sir Edward Hawke, with twenty-three ships-of-the- line attacked twenty-one French ships-of-the-line under the command of Marshal de Conflans. After a tremendous fight, the French fleet was shattered by the loss or capture of most of their ships, giving the Royal Navy one of its greatest victories.
