Description

Portrait of the architect and painter Ludwig Lange (1808 - 1868). Late 1850s. Salt print from collodion glass negative. 21 x 16 cm. Annotated in pencil on the verso.
Ludwig Lange began his training in 1823 as an architect under Georg August Lerch. From 1826 - 1830 he worked with Georg Moller and from 1830 - 1834 he studied with the landscape painter Carl Rottmann in Munich, with whom he made his first study trip to Greece in 1834. As of 1835 he taught at a high school in Athens and he was the consulting architect for King Otto I for public buildings. As of 1874 he was a professor for architecture at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich. - Some damage/fingerprints in the negative in right edge and lower right corner, minimal fading in edges, traces of previous mounting with slight paper loss on the verso, otherwise a rich dark print in very good condition.
