Notes

Schorer seems to have trained with his father, Hans Schorer the Younger, who was an established Augsburg artist. His works consist primarily of drawings, usually carefully finished landscape compositions such as this, in some cases with mythological subjects. Schorer also seems to have made designs for goldsmiths' work, but few if any paintings. For further information on the artist, see Heinrich Geissler, Zeichnung in Deutschland, Deutsche Zeichner 1540-1640, exhibition catalogue, Stuttgart, Staatsgalerie, 1979-80, vol. I, pp. 266-67.
